Donuts with Dad

The day after I had Morning with Moms, Craig had Donuts with Dad for Olivia's class! Since I normally take her with me, it was a nice change for Daddy to bring her. And I was actually on time, for once!! They shared donuts and a craft together. She sure does love her Daddy!

Morning with Mom

Last Wednesday at Kaufman was Mornings with Mom. All moms were invited to come have breakfast and shop the book fair. We had a good time together, I treasure time with my little buddy!!!

Waterway Arts Festival

Last Sunday after church, we decided to head down to the Waterway and check out the Arts Festival. The temperature was in the 90s and I'm pretty sure it was the hottest day of the year so far. If not, then it was close. We braved the heat since we had never been but had always heard about it. I must admit that I wasn't overly impressed. Its' not that I don't appreciate art, but we mostly hung out in the kids section. They had several craft tables for the kids and a stage for performances. We caught the very end of Cinderella but the Fairy Godmother was nice enough to stop and pose for us!I know she must have been HOT! They both made pinwheels

Daddy helping out The hit of the day were the bongo drums! Jacob LOVED playing them and we had to peel him away when it was time to go. Does this mean a drum set is in my future??? Yikes!

One of the horses that is used in therapy for special needs kids was there. They loved brushing and petting him! A few more shots of my little artists hard at work!

I think the kids enjoyed it more than we did :)

Which came first....?

It's the age old question.....which came first? The chicken or the egg???

The first graders at Jacob's school have been studying the life cycle of animals, including the chicken. Here is a link to watch the live video stream of their incubator. So far about 25 chickens have hatched! CLICK HERE

Flag Football

On Saturday Jacob had his first flag football game. It was actually a scrimmage, which was a good thing because our coach was sick and couldn't be there. A few of the dads stepped in to help coach, but I don't think any of the boys have played before so it was a bit of a challenge :) The practice is immediately before the game which made for a long hot morning. Olivia found ways to keep herself entertained....a dirt field! Jacob was given the #1 jersey and the coaches (dads) put him in the Center position. He caught on pretty fast and loved snapping the ball to the quarterback! Little sister had to play the part too, naturally! After practice, we switched fields and got started with the scrimmage. Wearing a mouth guard was a new experience and Jacob was fixated on messing with it during the game! A few action shots while playing defense... Playing center during the game... Overall, the team did fairly well considering the lack of experience and having no official coach. Hopefully next week will be even better!!!

First Grade Field Trip

I was lucky enough yesterday to join Jacob on his field trip to 7 Acre Woods. It was a special day because I got to spend it with only Jacob and that doesn't happen often enough when you have 2 kids! It was also great because it was his first field trip ever! In Kindergarten, he was sick and had to miss the trip to the zoo. He was so excited that I caught him up at 5:45 that morning making his bed and getting ready for the day!!!! I was assigned to chaperone Jacob and one of his friends. It was so much more fun being a mom than the teacher :)

This donkey was only 4 weeks old!

feeding the goats...

The boys loved the miniature golf! There was a pretend western town with a jail cell. Jacob said he was praying he would get out!

Mrs. Lowe and her class It was a fun day!

Swim Lessons

About a month ago Olivia started swim lessons at FINS. I was worried she might be a little reluctant to get in the pool since last summer she didn't get to swim much due to her surgeries but she's doing great! She is not a big fan of laying on her back (starfish) but she loves everything else!

Rodeo

The last Friday of Spring Break we headed downtown for our annual trip to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We dressed up in our best duds, went with our good friends, the Mathays, and a good time was had by all!

We started off watching Tommy participate in the mutton bustin'! Waiting for Tommy to take his turn...

Up next was the petting zoo The goats were fun for the kids. They would eat right out of your hand and one of them even tried to nibble on Shelley's jeans!

The girls opted for pony rides while the boys dove in to the carnival.

Everyone was getting hot so we decided to head inside for a little break and some air conditioning. We saw tons of livestock and even baby piglets that were only 2 days old. Wish I had a picture of them! The kids got to dig in the dirt with worms and plant seeds.

We headed back out to the carnival and had time for one more ride before heading into the rodeo. It was the girl's turn this time while big brothers waited rather patiently.

Believe it or not, all that took about six hours and it was finally time for the actual rodeo! It had been since I was a child, that I had seen the whole rodeo from start to finish and I really wanted the kids to have that experience. So, we dashed over and made it to our seats just in time! We saw the grand entrance complete with fireworks and the national anthem. Olivia wasn't a fan of the loud fireworks but was still in amazement of it all. We saw all the events but one of Jacob's favorites was the calf roping. He loved watching how fast the cowboys were and timing each one. He kept track of who was first second, etc.!

Cotton candy was a MUST! After the rodeo ended, it was time for the Alan Jackson concert! This was the first concert either one of the the kids had been to and I don't think they knew what to expect at first......but they LOVED it! Since it was about 9:30pm by the time he came on, Olivia only made it through the first couple songs before she climbed up into my lap and passed out.

Jacob was still going strong and loving every minute! (ignore my finger)

After 12 hours of being at the rodeo, it was FINALLY time to go home! Despite it being such a long day, it was a great one and I hope the kids have these memories of their first rodeo experience for a long long time! I know I will :)
