Roadtrip to Kentucky: Nashville Day 2

Our second day in Nashville was extra special because Craig's sister, Michelle, and her family drove down to spend the day with us! We went downtown and started our day at the famous Ryman Auditorium. We went on a backstage tour and got to see all of the dressing rooms that many famous stars have been in. Unfortunately, they did not allow pictures to be taken. We also watched a short film on the history of the building and took turns on the stage.

Afterwards, we spent some time exploring downtown. It was H-O-T! That afternoon we visited Cooters, the Dukes of Hazard Museum. Being a DOH fan growing up, it was a fun walk down memory lane! So neat to see all the old memorabilia there and of course, the infamous General Lee! After saying goodbye to the Duke boys, we loaded up and headed north to our final destination....Louisville, Kentucky!

First day of school: 2nd Grade

It's official, we now have a 2nd grader in the house! I still cannot believe it! He had mixed emotions about going back...didn't want to give up the lazy days of summer, but also excited to see friends again!

I, on the other hand, am going to miss him being gone all day but also happy knowing he is in a good place with a great teacher! He only let me take one picture in the classroom, but I was thankful to even get that!

Have a great day buddy and can't wait to hear all about it!

Roadtrip to Kentucky: Nashville

We spent two nights in Music City and could have stayed several more! We fell in love with it there...loved all the green trees, beautiful rolling hills and sights around town! We woke up early Sunday and headed straight to the Nashville Zoo.
I had heard many good things about this zoo and we were certainly impressed! Even though it was a smaller zoo than what we were used to, it did not disappoint! We started at the monkeys who were VERY entertaining!!! I have heard monkeys before, but never like this! They were shouting, yelping and calling out to each other so loud! You could hear them all over the zoo! We could not stop laughing!

Cute pic but I have no idea what animal was back there :)
Train ride This jaguar was pacing right in front of the window staring at the kids....a little creepy!!After the zoo, we headed downtown for some lunch. Hadn't planned on it but ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe. Jacob was fascinated with all the music memorabilia and especially loved the giant guitar out front! After lunch we decided to go back to the hotel for some rest time instead of going to the Science Center. Wish we could have made it, but after 3 days of no nap, Olivia definitely needed one! Guess we will just have to put that on our agenda for next time! That night we had dinner at a neat restaurant called Cock of the Walk. They had giant rocking chairs to sit in while you wait for a table. We enjoyed a yummy dinner and then headed to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel since it was just around the corner. The hotel/resort is very pretty inside and HUGE. We walked around for about an hour just admiring everything. To end the day, we took a fun little boat ride around the bottom level. It was a very long, but fun filled day!!!

Roadtrip to Kentucky Part 2: Memphis

The kids were so excited crossing the bridge into Memphis!

We went straight to the visitor center and were greeted by this guy......

We had fun picking up brochures and learning a little more about the city. We didn't really know much about Memphis, but come to find out, it is a great city with lots of history and things to do. Wish we could have had more time to see it all! One stop we HAD to make was Graceland!!! This was the highlight of our time in Memphis, other than the really good BBQ place we had lunch at! Here are some pictures from our time at the Elvis tourist trap.....Jacob was in HEAVEN!Sporting his guitar shirt and faux-hawk for Elvis :)

Next stop........NASHVILLE!
