Jacob's 4th Birthday!

Yesterday was Jacob's 4th birthday and we had a BLAST! As most of you reading this already know, Jacob LOVES firetrucks so we decided this year to have his party at a local fire station. It ended up being a BIG hit!! However, the party almost didn't happen! Craig, Jacob and I got there a few minutes early, so Jacob had a chance to check out the big firetruck and talk with the firefighters one on one which was nice. They were all VERY nice! Once all the kids were there, we sat everbody down to listen to Firefighter Adrian. Well, we had literally JUST got everyone settled and ready to listen, then the alarm went off!! One of the firemen said, "Well bye kids, we have to go!" My heart sank. I was thinking, "You have to be kidding me??!!" Then he had a message on the radio and they realized the call wasn't for them, but another station. Thank goodness!!! It actually ended up being pretty cool because they were then able to explain to the kids what the alarm was for and what happens if it were to ring again. Which, luckily, it did not!! So, after the little scare, we started with a tour of the station where the kids got to see the kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms the firemen sleep in and their "lounge area" with couches and a TV. Then we went out into the bay to look at the firetruck. Firefighter Adrian walked the kids all the way around the truck, explaining all the different parts and what they were used for. Then each kid got a chance to sit in the driver's seat and have their picture taken. Then they got to walk through the truck and crawl from one side to the other! All the kids kept asking for the sirens to be turned on, but that was NOT going to happen! So, they settled for ringing the bell that was on the front. And believe me--that was loud enough! I think they ALL took turns ringng the bell!! After checking out the truck, one of the firemen got dressed in all the gear and showed the kids the suit, including the helmet. They were showing the kids what they look like all dressed up so they would learn to not be scared of them. I thought that was a smart idea! The kids got to see him up close and personal! After some more photos with the fireman, we headed out back. They had one of the fire hoses hooked up and each kid got a chance to hold the fire hose and spray water! This was a big hit as you can imagine!!!!Especially for Jacob, since after his love of cars/trucks, comes his love of WATER! He thought he was pretty cool, pretending to put out a fire! Before we left, we took a few more pictures of the whole gang in front of the truck and then it was off to the park for cake and presents. Overall, we had an excellent experience at the fire station. The firefighters did a great job of entertaining the kiddos and were so generous to do this for us! We certainly appreciate everything they did! THANK YOU FIRE STATION NUMBER 5! You're the BEST!!
