WordFUL Wednesday!

Lots to share today, so instead of a wordLESS Wednesday, I will update on the cast change yesterday and how the week is going. I took some pictures of her cast before she got it off, so one day she can look back and see what she conquered! She had this cast for 11 weeks and it was definitely starting to get some wear and tear. She had holes in her knees from scooting all over and signatures from Dr. G, family and friends. Overall, she handled the whole thing so well and we couldn't be more proud of how she kept a smile on her face and continued to rise above this situation. Soooooo glad to be done with this phase!

So, yesterday we got up at the crack of dawn, dropped Jacob off at a friend's house and headed downtown. Even though she wasn't having surgery, she was still going under anaesthesia so we had to check in on the surgery floor just as the two times before. Once they took her back, it was about 2 hours until we got to see her again. The cast change went perfect but she had a tough time waking up from the anaesthesia so we did have to wait a bit to see her in Recovery. I was anxious to go back and see her and the new purple cast! We went back to Recovery and spent about an hour trying to wake her. She was very very groggy and did not want to wake up. In order to go home, she had to be awake and taking fluids. Every time we would try to wake her, she got upset and kept saying she didn't want to go home!! The doctor couldn't believe it and said that she has never had a patient say that in 20+ years. Only my child!!! Finally she did start waking up on her own but then got sick. So they gave her some anti-nausea medicine and about 30 minutes later, she perked up, was talking, and said she wanted to go home. Yay! Once we were home, it was touch and go. She was pretty crabby and still tired but eventually I was able to get her down for an afternoon nap. When she woke up, she was in a better mood and also wanted to eat a little (good sign).

When we talked last week about her new cast, I asked her what color she wanted. She quickly replied purple so purple is what she got! She nicknamed it "purplicious" after one of her favorite books. Here are a few pictures of the purplicious cast from last night. It only goes up her thighs and has 2 bars going across. I love the color!!!

This morning Dr. G called to check on her and during our conversation, he mentioned that he would see her in 4 weeks, not 5 like I had been told by the nurse. This means she will be cast free as of OCTOBER 27th and in time for Halloween!!!! I know its just one week sooner, but it means a lot to us and the news just made my day! So, here's to being purplicious for 4 more weeks!
